Paul Wiseheart

Paul Wiseheart

Paul Wiseheart is dedicated to helping people of all ages develop a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word. He is a committed Baptist and is blessed to pastor First Baptist Church and serve the community of Greencastle.

Paul was raised by Christian parents who love God and are active in their church. Because of his parents' devotion to the Lord, he came to trust in Christ alone to save him at a young age. He heard the gospel for the first time when he was eight years old at Vacation Bible School and shortly after committed his life to Christ. Through the practice of daily reading the Bible, he felt God calling him into full time ministry, and at the age of sixteen, he committed his life to God’s call. Since that time he has pursued biblical and theological education and has served in a variety of ministry positions.
Paul graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical and Theological Studies from Boyce College in Louisville, Kentucky, and he is currently completing his Advanced Placement Master of Divinity at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

He and his wife Melanie enjoy serving the Lord together. Her skillsets in music therapy and music ministry, as well as her experience working with children and youth, complement his own ministry well. They both love entertaining guests in their home and playing Euchre. While we are excellent partners in ministry, we are horrible Euchre partners. They have only won one game together. Some of Paul’s other hobbies and interests are backpacking, fishing, playing board games, woodworking, reading, and studying the New Testament in Greek.

Janet Staley

Janet Staley

Administration Assistant

Janet has been an American Baptist for approximately 58 years and has been employed as Administrative Assistant at First Baptist Church Greencastle for approximately 37 years.  She has 3 grown daughters, 3 grandchildren and 4 step-grand-children.  Her hobbies include: the love of good gospel music (which she shared with her late husband, Rev. Bill Staley), and also enjoys working in ministries that involve shepherding and caring for people.  She also loves working jig-saw puzzles, spending time with her family and friends, loving animals (now feeding 2 wild cats, 2 raccoons, an opossum, and an occasional skunk), quilting, reading, and taking drives through the country to look for old barns and donkeys.  Her hopes are to one day write a book which will be entitled "My Life in the Church Office"     .

First Baptist Church offers a preschool for children ages 18 months- Pre-K.

In the First Baptist Preschool program each child is regarded as God's special creature. Each will be loved as the unique individual he/she is. Curriculum is a well-balanced enrichment program designed to help each child understand his/her relationship with our loving heavenly Father and to experience God's presence in each day of life. Teachers encourage and support children as they build readiness skills for future academic learning and increase competence and independence. Children will be guided into positive social interactions that stress Christian values.
Preschool is the initial step in enlarging the child's world. The atmosphere of the program reflects God's love expressed through music, prayer, conversation, movement and scripture. In this environment each child is encouraged to grow into the unique person God has created him or her to be.
*  Two year olds learn through their own experience, trial and error, repetition and imitation. Adults guide and encourage this be ensuring that the environment is safe and supportive.
*  Three year olds learn through organized play. The children will receive a lot of love and encouragement as they try new things.
*  The Fours program is designed to enhance motor skills and social skills to provide a natural flow into the Pre-kindergarten program the following year.
*  The Pre-kindergarten program has been created to provide a gentle transition to kindergarten and to enhance rather than duplicate that experience.

This was found in an article written by Ellen H. Parlapiano published in Scholastic.  She had collected this information from a group of what she calls "highly regarded kindergarten teachers".  She had asked them to list the skills that they and their colleagues hope new students possess.  Here are the top readiness skills that kindergarten teachers are looking for.

  1.  Enthusiasm Toward Learning

  2.  Solid Oral-Language Skills

  3.  The Ability to Listen

  4.  The Desire to Be Independent

  5.  The Ability to Play Well with Others

  6.  Strong Fine-Motor Skills

  7.  Basic Letter and Number Recognition

This is what we at First Baptist Preschool try to accomplish with our Pre-K program.
